My brother and I went to Megacon, an anime and comic convention in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday (Feb. 28).
We took so many pictures that I’ll have to split the post into a few parts. First, I’ll talk a bit; just scroll down to skip to the pictures!
First off, the convention floor was huge! It was a marked improvement over last year (and MUCH larger and thus WAY better than Tampa’s Metrocon in 2008. Best anime con in Florida? Please.).
Some of the area was for comic and webcomic and other artists booths. I often feel bad for these people, since most people don’t go to the convention to see them, so there tend to be fewer people around their booths compared to other areas of the convention. But at the same time, I don’t feel bad, because I really don’t want to look at boobs and fairy/furry/other porn that they tend to have displayed there (joking — they’re not all like that; it’s just that sort of stuff stands out more).
Most of the floor was for the regular booths.
There were tons of stalls for classic comics, you know, the Marvel and DC kind. None that I’m interested in. I think those comic books are for boys.
I saw a few $5 manga stalls and so I bought Hayate the Combat Bulter #s 7, 8, 9, and 10. I still need 6, but that’s what Metrocon is for. I would say that Hayate is for girls but some boy totally snatched up the newest one right in front of me one time when I was at Borders (lucky I never buy manga at traditional retailers, too expensive!)
We also bought a couple of T-shirts (one is green and has the classic Link with “The Legend of Zelda” written on it (like this one except less expensive :p), and the other shirt had Schultz from Hogan’s Heroes, an old TV show, saying “I Know Nothing!” on it).
I discovered that game OSTs are insanely expensive … and there are certainly other ways to get the music. I tend to listen to free remixes myself, so ….
By the way, you can buy Pocky at Wal*Mart. Never buy it at conventions! The markup is simply way too much. Why pay $2.50+ per box when you can get it for $0.97? Also, Ramune, special pocky flavors, and other Asian delicacies are most likely available at your local Oriental Market, also for much cheaper. I know mine carries them. Though, the Oriental Market can be rather creepy. Last year my brother and I saved a ton by Ramune; there and bringing them to the convention in a bag. This year we simply forgot.
If you see this recurring theme of me saving money, well, I’m super cheap! I hate spending money. Remember this when you ask me for things or money in online games. Also wait ’til Metrocon comes around this year and you’ll see me be even more thrifty (who needs a door pass …?).
Anyway, some of the floor was for gaming: DDR, some RTS, Brawl, and some other fighter-type games. This is honestly the first time I’ve seen Brawl. It didn’t seem any different from Melee, really.
Against one wall were the barbarian battles that are regularly at Mega and Metrocon, and also the Lego displays.
Yes, Lego! It was really neat! And so, the first set of pictures comes from this section of the con. Click for (slightly) bigger pictures.
A scene from the first Indiana Jones movie.

Star Wars minis. The trekkies seem underrepresented at Megacon.

Scene from Star Wars (don’t remember which one, but definitely from original trilogy)

There’s more, but I’ll post them later!
